Chapter 11 – To Love the Demon Lord

* * * * *

“Lord Faust is truly a demon.”

Late at night on the top floor of the Demon Castle.

A secret tea party is being held on the balcony of the Demon Lord’s living quarters.

Alexia, Wilhelm, and Fahlen are in attendance.

These three have been by Ewaldt’s side as the Demon Lord’s closest associates since before Ewaldt was sealed.

Ewaldt tilts his head at Alexia’s words.

“What are you talking about?”

Alexia smiled pleasantly.

“Don’t play dumb. Little by little, you captivate(charm) the Demon Queen, don’t you? Did you think I wouldn’t notice?”

“Oh, that’s it.”

Ewaldt said, as if it were nothing.

Wilhelm glanced at him but didn’t say anything, while Fahlen, like Alexia, had a smile of amusement on his face.

Certainly, Ewaldt continued to fascinate Rachel.

But not strongly, just very slightly.

It’s up to Rachel herself to decide whether or not to become Queen.

Rachel is clearly attracted to Ewaldt.

Whether it’s romantically or simply due to his personality, affection is affection.

However, Ewaldt wasn’t satisfied with just that.

So little by little, slowly and steadily, Ewaldt continues to use charm on Rachel to deepen her feelings for him.

“Looks like the Demon Queen hasn’t noticed, has she?”

“Do I look like a fool enough to be found out?”

“No, not at all. I find it adorable that the Demon Queen grows more and more conflicted as her feelings for Lord Faust deepen with each passing day. I can’t help but be amused.”

Demons put their all into everything they do.

They never cut corners when it comes to fighting, living, and capturing.

They would never condemn Ewaldt for using his Charm ability to win over Rachel.

“But as expected of the descendant and reincarnation of the Saint, she’s much harder to get through than I expected.”

Ewaldt laughs softly.

Judging by the amused expression on his face, he didn’t seem to mind that his charm wasn’t working so well.

“Even so, my Destiny is a charming girl. Considering her abilities, personality, and appearance, I find it difficult to understand why the Kingdom of Ingrith let her go.”

Rachel was a good girl.

He doesn’t know what she was like when she was human, but now that she’s a lich, she’s calm, uninhibited, yet polite.

She has no animosity toward the demons, so it’s easy to forget that she was once human.

Moreover, she doesn’t have the arrogance that strong demons tend to have.

However, on the other hand, she possesses a fierce intensity.

Lately, Rachel has been talking a lot about herself, chatting on how she has spent her time since she was born in the kingdom of Inglith, what position she was in, and why she was executed.

With each conversation, Rachel’s anger and hatred grew, and Ewaldt loved to see her intense emotions.

Even those very pure negative emotions were beautiful.

She also excelled in terms of ability.

During her battle with Rodolphe’s younger brother, Wilde, Rachel was able to use magic other than her own attribute to a great extent, making her probably one of the strongest human mages.

Even if her mana capacity had been increased by her connection to Ewaldt, it would be meaningless if she didn’t have the talent to use magic to begin with.

Rachel can handle magic of all attributes.

For the past two weeks or so, Rachel had been spending her time at the Demon Castle as she pleased, but it seemed that she was primarily focused on testing her abilities.

Her mastery of necromancy, which she claimed to be her specialty, was particularly impressive. Alexia laughed as she recalled being surprised when Rachel effortlessly summoned around a hundred skeletons during practice.

Even with that, Rachel seemed to have used very little mana, suggesting that she could significantly bolster the Demon Lord’s army in the future by creating skeletons and zombies at will.

And Ewaldt was also pleased with her appearance.

Her soft blonde hair is like honey, and her glossy blonde hair matches her cool, bright pink-red eyes perfectly.

Her complexion, combined with her beautiful features, makes Rachel’s appearance vibrant and bright.

In terms of color, she resembled a vampire, but Rachel was softer, and more human.

Vampires are beautiful, but the beauty of demons, unlike humans, is too well-rounded.

Rachel’s features are beautiful, but a little short of being exquisite, and yet Ewaldt finds her endearing.

There are no issues with her appearance, abilities, or personality.

And yet, Rachel was executed.

The people of the Kingdom of Inglith, who had taken the words of the saint from the other world to heart, were all fools.

They had discarded the only means of sealing the Demon Lord away.

“I concur.”

Wilhelm, who had been silent, spoke up.

“At first, I only thought of her as a descendant of the Saint, but the Demon Queen’s abilities are also useful to our Demon Lord’s army. If she had used those abilities on the human side, we would have been at a disadvantage.”

Skeletons and zombies are weak on their own.

But when there are hundreds or thousands of them, they are a force to be reckoned with.

Rachel, who had created a hundred skeletons, looked extremely happy.

She must have been thinking about sending waves of skeletons and zombies toward the Kingdom of Inglith.

Ewaldt would like to help if he could, but in order to do so she must become Queen.

That’s the exchange condition.

Even if she doesn’t become queen, the time will come when the Demon Lord’s army will invade the Kingdom of Inglith.

If she becomes a queen, it will come sooner, if not, it will come later.

That’s all there is to it.

Rachel seemed to understand that too.

In other words, Rachel is torn between becoming Ewaldt’s consort or not.

If he is rejected, he will strengthen the charm until he wins Rachel’s heart.

Using his charm to pique her interest and favor, and then they can slowly develop romantic feelings later.

“Even so, what an interesting time we live in, with the Demon Lord taking the descendant of a Saint as his wife.”

Fahlen laughs teasingly.

Before Ewaldt was sealed away, such a thing would never have been possible.

Rachel and Ewaldt would never have met in this way.

In that respect, although Saintess Illumina’s actions were a blow to the demons, in the long run, it is not a bad thing.

At least in this day and age, Rachel is the only one who can seal Ewaldt.

It would be a bit complicated if the man who claims to be Rachel’s brother got married, had a child, and bore a daughter, but as far as they know, he’s not married yet.

He could just be killed before he has children.

Rachel also seems to hate her former family.

Perhaps even without Ewaldt’s intervention, Rachel would end her own bloodline herself.

If so, that would be amusing.

Suddenly, everyone in the room looked in the same direction.

This was because they felt the magic of Rachel, the subject of their conversation.

“My Destiny seems surprisingly proactive.”

Ewaldt laughed softly and stood up.

Following suit, the other three also rose from their seats, bowed, and disappeared into the darkness.

Ewaldt looked away and went back to his room.

When the servant demon enters, she announces that Rachel has arrived, and Ewaldt tells them to let her into the room.

After a short while, Rachel was led into a dimly lit room.

Ewaldt laughed silently at her defenseless appearance, wearing only a shawl over her nightgown.

Apparently, Rachel lacked a sense of caution when it came to the opposite sex.

She had been raised as the Crown Prince’s fiancée from a young age, so there probably wasn’t any man who would want to approach her.

When their eyes met, Rachel quickly dropped her gaze.

“Um, sorry for calling so late…….”

But soon, pink-red eyes looked at him.

“I need to tell you something, Lord Ewaldt.”

The eyes staring straight at him are soothing.

Most of the demons would not look Ewaldt in the eye.

Due to his immense mana and instinctive awe, few could make eye contact with Ewaldt.

Ewaldt smiled.

“You’re always welcome to talk.”

He walked over and gently took Rachel’s hand.

Then he sat her down on the sofa.

“From now on, though, you should avoid going out dressed in that outfit. It makes you look so defenseless, I’m tempted to attack you.”

He whispered in her ear, and Rachel turned around with a startled look on her face and pulled away.

He was able to see the shame in her pink-red eyes up close.

Not wanting to startle Rachel, he quickly pulled his face away and sat down on the sofa diagonally in front of her.

Perhaps realizing that she was wearing a nightgown, she gripped the shawl with both hands, trying to cover her front, which was quite amusing.

“I’ll be more careful next time.”

Does that mean she’ll come back late at night?

Or does it mean that they can remain cordial even if she shows up in her nightgown?

If she was saying it unconsciously, it would make Ewaldt happy.

Without bothering to point anything out, Ewaldt simply nodded nonchalantly.

“So, what did you want to talk about?”

Since she came to visit at this time, it must be something very important and she wouldn’t want others to hear about it.

As she sat down, Rachel clutched her shawl tighter.

Then she took a deep breath and said:

“I have memories of my past life.”

Ewaldt asked immediately.

“Memories of Saintess Illumina?”

“No, different memories. I don’t have any memories of the First Saint.”

“I see.”

How fortunate, Ewaldt thought.

Not only did he have a fierce battle with Saintess Illumina, but during that time, Ewaldt had committed atrocities against humans.

There is no such thing as mercy for humans.

Thus, although he behaved kindly in front of Rachel, Ewaldt was truly the Demon Lord.

If she had memories of the Saintess Illumina, Rachel wouldn’t accept Ewaldt.

That’s how merciless Ewaldt is towards humans.

“You don’t seem surprised……”

Rachel looks troubled.

“Life comes in cycles. If the same soul is reincarnated, it may be possible for it to retain its previous memories.”

Rachel looks down slightly.

“Yes…… no, I do have memories of my previous life, but they are not memories of this world. I lived in another world, a world very different from this one.”

“Oh, that’s interesting.”

It reminded him of the saint in the Kingdom of Inglith.

According to Wilhelm, the Saint in her country is not of this world, but a being summoned from another world by summoning magic.

“I believe that the place where I lived in my previous life was probably the same world as Saintess Yuri Aizawa, who was summoned to the Kingdom of Inglith.”

“Why do you think that?”

“When I was resurrected as a Lich, I remembered my past life. At that time, I also remembered a story set in this world. In the story, Saintess Yuri is the protagonist, who meets several men and falls in love with one of them while fighting the demons.”

Ewaldt tilted his head at what Rachel was saying.

“If this is a story, then you and this Saintess Yuri person aren’t from the same world, are you?”

“Normally, that would be the case. However, I believe that the summoned Saintess Yuri is not the original protagonist. I would like to talk about that as well.”

Then Rachel spoke.

In her previous life, Rachel was an ordinary woman in another world.

In that world, there is a story set in this world, in which the main character, a saint named Yuri, meets handsome men, grows closer to them while fighting demons, and falls in love with one of them. Rachel in her previous life loved this story.

The Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Inglith is one of those men, and if Saintess Yuri were to choose the Crown Prince, Rachel would be the obstacle in her way.

“Originally, there were three outcomes: I would support their relationship and step aside, or they would deepen their relationship without my support, or the relationship between Saintess Yuri and the Crown Prince would not go well and I would remain his fiancée.”

“But you were executed.”

Rachel gives a small nod.

“In the story, Saintess Yuri falls in love with a number of men. One of them is actually you, Lord Ewaldt.”

Ewaldt blinked.

“Me?”

“Yes, Saintess Yuri, who wished for peace with the demons, was the one to break the seal on Lord Ewaldt.”

“Foolish. I will not accede to peace with humans.”

“That would have been the case had you been fully resurrected. But the Lord Ewaldt in the story was weakened due to being resurrected by Holy Attribute magic. When I became a lich, my magic power increased, but perhaps I, as a human, did not have enough, so when I broke the seal, I used the magic power of Saintess Yuri as well. In the story, Lord Ewaldt ostensibly agreed with Saintess Yuri’s thoughts, but it seemed to be to buy time to regain his power.”

That convinced Ewaldt.

There is no way that Ewaldt would make peace with humans.

The Demon Lord is incompatible with humans.

“Rachel was there, too. Lord Ewaldt would sweet talk Rachel into offering up her Dark Attribute magic power in order to regain his powers. In that case, Rachel would be killed by the Demon Lord.”

“I see”, Ewaldt nodded.

Now, Rachel is a Lich and a benefactor, so Ewaldt has no intention of killing her, but if she were a completely unrelated person, Ewaldt would have taken advantage of her. It’s possible that he would use her and then discard her.

“Only those who have been exposed to the story know this. The real Saintess Yuri would not have known. However, that Saintess Yuri claimed that I was a threat to the Kingdom of Inglith. And so far, Saintess Yuri has been predicting the movements of the Demon Lord’s army under the guise of a prophecy, but that was probably because she remembered the flow of the story. I think he wanted to prevent the full resurrection of Lord Ewaldt.”

“I’m sorry”, Rachel said, bowing her head.

“Lord Ewaldt, the reason I was able to resurrect you is because I knew the story.”

Ewaldt tilted his head again.

“I see no reason for you to apologize.”

“…… Huh?”

“You gained knowledge from that story, and you used it to revive me. Thanks to you, I was able to be revived. That was a boon for me. I see no reason for you to apologize.”

It’s interesting and intriguing to have memories of a past life.

Knowing this, Ewaldt felt that it would be even more amusing if he were to take her as his queen.

If what Rachel said was true, then she knew the story as well as Saintess Yuri.

In other words, she was able to read the opponent’s movements.

By understanding the actions of the humans, who base their strategies on knowing their usual tactics, they can counter the humans even further by reading their intentions.

He doesn’t expect to be able to read every battle.

For now, until the demons regained their strength, until they could kill the Saint from another world, who was the key to the humans’ survival, that would be enough.

…… I have no intention of letting go of this.

Although that wasn’t his original intention, Rachel’s usefulness has increased.

“After all, you are my Destiny.”

He knelt down beside Rachel, took her hand, and kissed it.

“I’m glad I met you, with all your memories of your past life.”

It wouldn’t have worked with just Rachel, the human.

If it is Rachel, the Lich, and especially if it was with the memories of her previous life that has shaped her into who she is now, then even that previous life will be gladly accepted.

“Rachel, please be my queen.”

Demons are greedy.

Once they want something, they never relent.

And Ewaldt was the king of the demons.
