Chapter 1 – The Beginning ~ Waking Up as a Stunning Beauty

Sunlight streamed through the curtains.

The morning glow hit my eyelids, and I stirred slightly at the brightness before slowly lifting my heavy eyelids.

“Young Mistress, are you awake?”

Dear me? Um. I’m pretty sure I lived alone. So it’s weird to hear someone else ask me that.

I blinked a few times and then slowly sat up.

Also, the scenery in front of me seemed a bit strange.

My room was a typical studio apartment room, and it wasn’t this spacious.

The first thing I should have seen when I woke up was the bookshelf, but it wasn’t there.

“Um… Young Mistress…?”

“……………………………… Who?”

Also, I definitely didn’t have a voice this clear before.

In the first place, there was no way I would have a maid in the room.

Everything was strange, so I got up from the bed and threw open the curtains to reveal a vast garden.

How many Tokyo Domes could fit in here?

Furthermore, the maid I had just asked, “Who?” screamed and ran out of the room.

I probably should have stopped her, but I didn’t have the luxury of time, and I was too mesmerized by the view from the window to do so.

Also, I needed to check my appearance first.

I spotted a full-length mirror, so I walked over to it, staring intently at my reflection.

Beautiful platinum blonde hair.

It was slightly wavy, but had an incredible shine. There was something like an angel’s halo on top. Amazing. Moreover, the hair was as soft as silk and smooth to the touch. And long. Reaching well below the waist.

The eyes were slightly almond-shaped, and their color was a clear sapphire blue.

The bangs fell slightly over the eyes, but if swept to the side and set, it wouldn’t be a problem.

A supple body, a slender waist, yet with just the right amount of muscle.

Isn’t this the so-called perfect body?

No, more importantly, this appearance.

“…… Lunaria il von Solfege……?”

The villainess from “Angelic Blessings at Your Side”, the Otome Game I had obsessed over.

Certainly, she was the first daughter of the Solfege family, the top duke family of the four great duke families. If my memory serves me correctly.

Or rather, I could never forget this face, and I would never mistake it. It’s Lunaria!

“I couldn’t mistake my favorite character’s face for someone else’s!” I screamed in my head, then looked at myself in the mirror again and touched my face. Incidentally, her skin was incredibly smooth.

“Why…”

I’m pretty sure I finished work, came home, and then turned on the console to continue playing the game… I don’t remember anything after that, which is kind of scary.

Why is this happening?

There’s no way I can figure it out by thinking about it.

However, the moment I touched the mirror, I felt an electric shock, and at the same time, a flood of memories poured into my head.

The overwhelming amount of information made me feel dizzy and nauseous, but I stared wide-eyed at the image in the mirror.

『Why…… why doesn’t anyone understand…!』

『I’m… not wrong!!』

『I’m tired of this… I’m done…』

『If I can’t be loved… then I won’t love anyone either. I don’t belong in this world!』

Crying hysterically, she ransacked the room, and then….

『Enough, it’s okay.』

Lunaria held a delicate dagger in her trembling hand.

『Because I’m no longer needed.』

With a determined expression, the Lunaria in the mirror stabbed herself in the stomach.

So that’s what this is.

“These are your memories, Lunaria…”

The Lunaria reflected in the mirror thrust a dagger into her abdomen.

When the maid saw this, she hurriedly called her father, mother, brother, and younger sister.

In the mirror’s reflection, the family didn’t even seem concerned. They treated her, but that was it. No one came to visit her. The only ones present were the maid who had been by Lunaria’s side since she was a child and the butler who had served her mother’s family.

“How harsh…… It must have been so painful… so agonizing…”

Tears naturally come to my eyes.

Even in the game, Lunaria’s actions were condemned, and she was left all alone, ignored by everyone. In the game world, what happened afterward remained unknown.

Was she feeling this way?

I clenched my fist and turned my gaze to the mirror again, and there, faintly, was the real Lunaria, half-transparent.

I instinctively checked behind me, but of course, there was no one.

『I’m sorry…. I… I’m just… so tired… You can have this body… do whatever you want with it… it’s okay now… I’m sorry for dragging you into all this…』

“It’s alright. Lunaria-chan, you did your best. You’re so so brave.”

I couldn’t pet her, but I tried to get as close to her as possible.

And gently put our palms together.

A smile graced Lunaria’s face, while the girl in the mirror widened her eyes.

『I…… I, did……… my best?』

“You did your very best!”

『Even though no one recognized it, I did my best, didn’t I?』

In the mirror, she shed tears, and her face became distorted. She must have endured like this all along.

No one ever praised or acknowledged her.

Yes, even when she cries, she is a stunning beauty!!! So cute!!! Casting out this girl is a sin that deserves a thousand deaths!!! I desperately swallowed the words I wanted to shout.

This body is no longer “me” but “Lunaria”.

It’s okay, I’ve played that game thoroughly.

In fact, I read the strategy guide until it was worn out, and even memorized the conditions for achieving the secret ending.

I even went so far as to play Lunaria’s hidden route. And I cried my eyes out.

If so, there is nothing that “I” cannot do.

Perhaps the “me” from my original world was already dead.

After all, my workplace was a terrible black company.

The only saving grace was that the overtime pay was generous. That’s really all there was.

I’d lost count of how many consecutive shifts I’d worked, but thanks to that, and for whatever reason I couldn’t explain, I’m here now.

Oh, and that dagger Lunaria used to stab herself… Yeah, that was definitely—

“Lunaria, the dagger you stabbed yourself with? It’s a dagger used by those with immense mana to inhibit their healing abilities so they can commit suicide, isn’t it?”

『You knew…?』

“I know. After all, Lunaria inherited immense mana from the previous Duchess, was raised as the heir to this dukedom, and was scheduled to have an audience with His Majesty the King as a Duchess on her 18th birthday, right?”

『…………』

Lunaria nodded.

Yes, she was a ridiculous cheat character in the game.

The hidden boss of “Angelic Blessings at Your Side”—an invincible cheat character.

No matter how hard the protagonist, the Saint, trained, Lunaria couldn’t be defeated “normally” until a set number of turns had passed. She was the heir to the foremost of the Four Great Ducal Houses, a foe so formidable that she bordered on the absurd.

That’s my favorite character, Lunaria il von Solfege.

Master of the four elemental magics, flawless in martial arts, and peerless in etiquette and academics.

This was the result of the previous Duchess’s painstaking education and the high level of magical power she inherited. I knew all this after reading the setting materials from cover to cover like scripture.

Such a Lunaria cannot be killed by ordinary means.

To kill her, you will need a dagger, an ultra-rare item that can disable her auto-heal ability. However, obtaining this ultra-rare item requires stealing it from the Solfege family during an ultra-short-term event.

The dagger was kept in Lunaria’s room.

Killing Lunaria doesn’t change the ending. However, it was included as one of the game’s challenge elements. Apparently, very few people have managed to achieve it.

『If you know that much…… then I guess it’ll be okay……?』

“Leave it to me. Lunaria has worked too hard. So now it’s my turn to do my best.…… I know this isn’t the nicest way to put it, but… I’m sure that when you are reincarnated, you will become a normal girl.”

『…… un.』

“You did well, Miss Lunaria Il von Solfege.”

『Un…!』

With a whoosh, the girl in the mirror was fading away. Despite her tears, she had a beautiful smile on her face. She put her hands together and chanted something that looked like a spell.

“Hmm?”

I was enveloped in a soft pink light and felt as if something had been bestowed upon me.

『Thank you.』

With one last smile on her face, Lunaria vanished.

And I, who remained as “Lunaria”, was enveloped in sub-zero air.

“Yes, leave it all to me, Lunaria. Now that ‘I’ have become Lunaria, I won’t show any mercy. Let’s start with ……… my family.”

Ping ♪

“Hmm?”

【Your family will soon arrive in this room! Will you ring the bell as proof of your status as a Duchess?】
▶       Yes
         No

“What’s this?”

The blinking lights appear to be options, but on closer inspection, the “No” option was faintly glowing.

“Could this be the option Lunaria chose in the past…? Oh my god, what kind of cheat did you give me, Lunaria-sama…”

Without meaning to, I added “-sama” and expressed my deepest gratitude to her, even though she was no longer there.

“I’ll change it………… I won’t let myself be oppressed and forced out…! I’ll turn everything upside down…!”

On that day, the magic bell reserved for the Duchess sounded for the first time since the previous Duchess passed away.

It signaled the birth of a new Duchess and served as a bell of retribution for the family that had mistreated Lunaria.
