Chapter 23 – The Most Powerful Demon King in History. Exchanges Information with Jorm

As we walk through the town, Jessica asks.

“What should I do with the loot left by the skeletons?”

“I don’t know the procedure in these situations, so I’ll leave it to Lumiel.”

“Yes. We’ll turn them over to the Knights Order. Master, is that alright with you?”

“Of course. Also, please give my share to the children.”

Jessica, who was listening to the conversation between me and Lumiel, said in a voice full of anticipation.

“…are you sure?”

“It’s fine. I’m rich. Eat something delicious.”

“Thank you, Princess, Mr. Hyrum!”

When Lumiel handed over the money, Jessica was overjoyed.

“Be careful on your way home, okay?”

“Okay!”

Lumiel says as she sees off Jessica as she leaves.

“You are kind to children, aren’t you, Master?”

“…… am I?”

“Yes, you are.”

I thought about it for a moment and decided to be honest.

“…… Maybe it’s because I see Phylfi’s face in the children.”

” Phylfi? Who is that?”

“Ah. She’s the girl I raised as my daughter when I was the Demon King in my previous life. She was only ten years old when I died.”

“That’s worrisome, isn’t it?”

“However, that was 500 years ago. She may have already passed away, but I would like to know what kind of life she led.”

“…… I see.”

“I hope she  lived a happy life, but…”

“…………”

Lumiel was silent, staring intently at me with a serious expression on her face.

  ◇

After that, I parted ways with Lumiel and returned to the mansion.

It was after sunset when Lumiel and Jorm returned.

After dinner and a bath, I talked to Jorm when I went back to my room.

“Jorm. Let’s exchange information.”

“Understood. The Hero Sapling was normally in the Knights’ post. The only time she went out was the dispatch due to reports of a monster infestation.”

“The dispatch where she met up with me, huh?”

“Indeed.”

With that, Jorm nodded in agreement.

“At that time, Lumiel came alone…”

“Something like that. The place where the monsters appeared is mostly inhabited by humans, right?”

“Yes. Well, there were some elves, but basically, they were all humans.”

“That’s why the knights didn’t move, saying that it would be fine to postpone it.”

“So she had to do it alone?”

After all, as the townspeople had testified, it seems that the knights sometimes disobey Lumiel’s orders.

“Ah, and according to the Knights, the Hero Sapling is regularly ordered to do impossible tasks.”

“Impossible tasks? What sort of impossible task?”

“Let me see…”

Gathering medicinal herbs that grow in the habitat of powerful monsters.

Setting up magic tools on the suffocating peak of a mountain.

Defeating high-ranking monsters, such as a Cerberus.

“It seems that she has received many orders unsuited to her capabilities.”

“An attempt at her martyrdom, is it?”

The reason why she is able to survive even if she is sent to her death may be because Lumiel is a Hero and has the blessings of the Holy God.

It’s a big deal because she can’t use magic, or more precisely, magic that manifests outside the body.

When she defeated the necromancer, Lumiel had demonstrated a keen intuition.

The sharpness of her intuition may have helped her overcome certain death.

“Also, the monsters that are rising around the town might all be after Lumiel’s life.”

“I see. The Lich today had a killing urge towards Lumiel.”

“Yes, the knights also claimed that the monsters have suddenly started spawning recently.”

“Recently?”

Speaking of which, Lumiel also said that monsters have been appearing a lot lately.

“The Knights have been gleefully talking about how they were gradually becoming less able to hide their murderous intentions.”

“Do the knights think that the Prime Minister had a hand in bringing the monsters?”

“It seems so. The Order is not very fond of the sapling, or rather, the knights apparently want to make the First Prince their king.”

It matches the information I heard from the old men in the favela.

“I see, Lumiel is all alone in hostile territory.”

“What are you going to do? Your Majesty. Personally, I would rather have a Hero Sapling dead.”

Jorm says this because the Hero is his natural enemy.

However, you can tell by looking at his face that he is not being sincere.

Jorm, too, has been fed with Lumiel’s delicious home-cooked meal and has been petted a lot.

Maybe that’s why he felt affection for her.

“Jorm, I won’t let Lumiel die. She’s my disciple.”

“I see, if Your Majesty says so, it cannot be helped.”

Jorm said bluntly, as if to hide his joy.

However, Jorm’s tail was wagging cheerfully.
