Chapter 14 – The Most Powerful Demon Lord in History. Begins Gathering Information from the Elven Princess

The bandits hadn’t escaped.

They probably couldn’t escape because I broke the bones in their limbs.

『Your Majesty, why not kill them?』

『…… yes, I suppose so.』

I search the surrounding area with magic. There were about five orcs in the distance.

And I found a magic tool inside the wagon.

There was another magic tool in the leader’s pocket.

“This is…”

Upon investigation, I found that it was the magic tool in the wagon that attracted the orcs.

It’s a very powerful magic tool. It was not something that a bandit would be able to possess.

What the leader was carrying was a magic tool to ward off monsters.

This one is not as powerful. It will only be effective if it is very close.

“I see.”

They summoned orcs with the magic tool on the wagon, and were protecting themselves with a magic tool to repel monsters.

That must have been their strategy.

I ask the bandit leader.

“So, who put you up to this?”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Hmm. Feigning ignorance?”

I tightly clutched his broken leg.

“Guuuuaaah!”

“So who sent you?”

“I really don’t know!”

I gripped it again, harder.

“Giyaaaaaaah… I really don’t know! Please forgive me.”

After repeating this about five times, the leader fainted, blowing bubbles.

『Your Majesty, do they really not know?』

『Perhaps.』

After all, they were doing dirty work, so the client was unlikely to reveal their identity to the culprits.

『If they don’t know, it can’t be helped. Let’s head into town.』

Then I carry Lumiel on my back and start walking.

Lumiel’s ample, soft chest pressed against my back.

Jorm, who was on my shoulders, hid his presence and flew above us.

『Your Majesty, are you sure you want to leave them there?』

『Jorm, do you know what this is?』

I held up the magic tool I had retrieved earlier toward Jorm.

Then Jorm came down from above and sniffed the magic tool.

『…… A magic tool for repelling monsters?』

『Indeed. Also, the magic tool that summons the orcs is still intact.』

Their hands and feet are broken, so even if an orc summoned by the magic tool comes, they can’t escape.

『Whether they survive or not depends on their luck.』

『Most likely, they will be in the stomach of an orc within the hour.』

『Probably.』

But they, too, tried to feed Lumiel to the orcs.

I have no sympathy for them.

Thirty minutes after I started walking down the road towards the town.

“…… Huh? Where am I?”

Lumiel woke up.

As soon as she awoke, Jorm’s presence faded even more.

Jorm is probably taking care not to be noticed by Lumiel.

“Are you awake? How are you feeling?”

“I, I…”

For a moment Lumiel seemed confused.

But she soon remembered.

“Thank you, Mr. Hyrum.”

“Don’t worry about it. Is your body okay?”

“Yes, thank you, I can walk now, so…”

“Don’t overdo it.”

“No, I’m really fine.”

I lowered Lumiel to the ground.

Lumiel’s cheeks were red. It may be embarrassing to have been carried on my back with her chest pressed against me the whole time.

“Ah! Mr. Hyrum. Thank you for the sword.”

“Don’t worry about it. You should hold on to that sword.”

“No! I can’t accept such an expensive item!”

With that said, Lumiel returned the sword.

“Mr. Hyrum. The merchants—”

“Bandits. They’re not merchants.”

I corrected her, and Lumiel must have been thinking about what they were going to do to her.

“…… Yes. What happened to the bandits?”

“I left them there. There were orcs a short distance away, so they may have been eaten.”

“…… Is, that so?”

“Are you dissatisfied?”

“No, it’s not like that.”

Still, Lumiel turned around once, looking a little worried.

The hero really is good-natured.

“If you’re concerned, return to the town and get some manpower to pick them up. We can’t carry ten people now anyway.”

When I say that, Lumiel finally starts walking forward.

“Lumiel, may I ask a question?”

“Yes. I promised to teach you some common sense about this country.”

I immediately ask Lumiel.

“What is this country called?”

“Um, this country is called the Kingdom of Ortville.”

“Ortville? That’s the same as your family name.”

“Yes, I am the daughter of His Majesty the King, the First Princess.”

“I see.”

The bandits had mentioned that she was an elven princess.

In other words, they must have set a trap for Lumiel, knowing full well that she was the First Princess.

“I have many more questions to ask, but for now, tell me about the country.”

“Yes, the Kingdom of Ortville…”

It seems to be a superpower that was formed by the unification of this continent a hundred years ago.

The rulers of the Kingdom of Ortville are elves.

In terms of status, elves are at the top, followed by beastmen and dwarves, and the lowest tier seems to be the human race.

“The bandits called me a lesser race, but is that the reason?”

“Yes, I’m sorry.”

“Lumiel, why are you apologizing?”

“I’m also on the side of the rulers, so…”

I think that’s a great attitude.

“By law, there is no status system, but…”

“Well, it would be difficult to get rid of that feeling of contempt.”

“Yes, our power is wanting.”

Lumiel says apologetically.

When I ask, Lumiel answers honestly and without concealment.

I kept asking Lumiel more and more questions to gather information.
