Chapter 10 – The Most Powerful Demon King in History. Comes Across a Hero Sapling
A thick cloud covered the mountain where my tomb and Jorm’s nest were located.
The foot of the mountain was not also covered with clouds, but with thick fog.
“I suppose these clouds and fog are caused by my labyrinth.”
“That is correct. Due to Your Majesty’s labyrinth and tomb, the flow of magic here is peculiar. For Jorm, it was a comfortable place to live.”
“I’m glad to hear that. Ah, also Jorm. Don’t call me ‘Your Majesty’ in the presence of other people.”
Jorm tilted his head while still perched on my shoulder.
“Why not?”
“Because it would hinder my ability to gather information if people found out that I am the Demon King.”
“Understood! So you hide in the shadows and act in secret, so cool!”
“It’s not like that, but…”
After descending the mountain and walking for a while with Jorm leading the way, we came upon a small road.
“This road leads directly to a town where people live.”
“Thank you. Five hundred years ago there were no settlements around here.”
“But I have not left the nest for about ten years, so it might be gone.”
Jorm says so, but it is rare for a town to disappear in only ten years or so.
There must be a town. If there isn’t one, we can think about it at that time.
When we went down the mountain, the weather was nice. Judging by the height of the sun, it was just past noon.
“The sunlight feels good. How is it for an ancient dragon?”
“It depends on the ancient dragon, but I do not mind being exposed to the sunlight.”
“Is that so?”
“Sometimes I would leave the nest and take a nap on the top of the mountain.”
The mountain where the nest was located is high. For humans, it would be cold even in the middle of the summer day.
“By the way, Jorm. Do you know who rules this area now?”
“I do not know.”
“I see. Haven’t you heard anything from Jormungandr?”
“Hmm, I heard that after the death of Your Majesty, the country split up and went to war.”
“Obviously, that’s how it goes.”
However, Jorm didn’t seem to know any more than that.
Once in the town, I would like to gather such information as soon as possible.
As I walked slowly toward the town, enjoying the scenery, I sensed the presence of a monster.
“There’s a strong-looking monster. Even though it’s on the side of the road, it’s not safe.”
“I guess so.”
After walking for a while, the monster came into view.
It was standing on the road with its back to us.
“An orc.”
Orcs are nearly one and a half times larger than humans, and are powerful and ferocious monsters.
They eat anything, but are especially fond of human flesh, including elves, demons, and humans.
“Your Majesty. Is it not large for an orc?”
The orc standing on the road was more than twice as tall as a person.
And it had a large club, about the size of a full-grown man.
“An Orc Lord, I suppose.”
“Lord huh? Are they much stronger than orcs?”
“It’s on a different order of magnitude. But it’s still much weaker than Jorm.”
When I said that, Jorm wagged his tail happily.
“Why is it standing on the road?”
“It certainly looks suspicious.”
I’ve never heard of orcs standing idle on the road.
“Just to be safe, let’s get off the road and stay hidden.”
“Sure.”
Jorm and I erased our presence and walked off the road into the forest.
The Orc Lord kept standing there.
As I got closer and closer, suddenly someone on horseback came running from the other side.
It was an elven girl.
The girl had long beautiful blonde hair tied back, wore armor, and held a longsword at her waist.
She was in her mid-teens. She looked about the same as the current Hyrum.
Her lovely emerald-colored eyes caught my attention.
The girl got off her horse and pointed her sword at the Orc Lord.
Compared to the armor she was wearing, her sword looked rather dull.
“My name is Lumiel Ortoville. By royal decree, I will have your life.”
“UGAAA……”
Seeing Lumiel, the Orc Lord roared with delight.
She must look very delicious.
“TAAAAAAAAAAAAH!”
Without flinching, Lumiel slashed at the Orc Lord.
The Orc Lord caught the sword with its huge club.
The club was supposed to be heavy, but the Orc Lord wielded it with ease.
『That girl, she’s quite capable.』
『Your Majesty, I have a bad feeling about this.』
『Hmm? What do you mean?』
『That elf is a Hero. Although she is still a sapling.』
『A Hero?』
A Hero is a being that is proficient at defeating demon kings and mighty dragons.
By receiving the divine protection of the holy gods, their potential is higher than the norm, and they grow at an astonishing rate.
And they possess unique magic of unparalleled power. For both the Demon King and the Ancient Dragon, the Hero is a fearsome presence.
In my previous life, I fought against two Heroes. I won, of course, but they were both very formidable.
『She doesn’t feel like a Hero.』
『That is because Your Majesty is a human. If you were a demon, you would know it at once. I am an ancient dragon too, so there is no mistaking it.』
Dragons are also hunted by Heroes.
In other words, for the ancient dragon Jorm, they are like natural enemies.
『If Jorm says so, then I suppose she is.』
『Your Majesty. Should we not kill her now? She is still weak right now, but when she grows up, we may not be able to handle it.』
Jorm said, trembling.
Despite his strength, Jorm is still a young dragon. He can’t help being scared.
『Don’t be so afraid, Jorm. Just because she’s a hero doesn’t mean she’s an evil fellow.』
『I see.”』
While Jorm and I were talking, Lumiel and the Orc Lord were still fighting.
Lumiel is strong because she is a Hero. She gradually corners the Orc Lord.
However, Lumiel’s sword broke.
『Well, that sword is done.』
The sword Lumiel was using was a dull article that only looked good.
Rather, it was amazing that it held up against the club of the Orc Lord so far.
“M, my precious sword!”
However, Lumiel seems shocked that her sword had been broken.
